Case Study: Blessing Ranch and the Unhindered Clinical Instrument
Client: Blessing Ranch Minisitries
Key Focus: Developing a psychometrically sound assessment to indviduals and teams to identify and overcome personal and relational hindrances to healthy leadership.
Interview: Dr. Charity Byers, CEO of Blessing Ranch
The Challenge
Blessing Ranch exists to help pastors and Christian leaders live well, lead well, and finish well in the callings God has placed on their lives. For nearly 30 years, they’ve specialized in intensive counseling designed to produce deep personal and spiritual transformation. But as they expanded their offerings to include coaching and team care, they needed a tool to help leaders identify what was truly hindering their growth—and fast-track the transformation process.
The Solution
While writing Unhindered, Dr. Charity Byers and her team realized that their transformational model needed a companion tool—something that could deliver personalized insight into the internal dynamics shaping a leader’s life and relationships. That vision became the Unhindered Clinical Instrument (UCI). To bring it to life, they partnered with Dr. Greg Wiens and Healthy Growing Leaders.
“Working with Greg and the team was eye-opening,” said Dr. Byers. “We had no idea the level of expertise and precision it would take to build an assessment tool like this. The work they do is far more than technical—it’s deeply intentional and spiritually grounded.”
Tangible Results
Even in its early use, the UCI has created remarkable outcomes:
-
One leader, who had completed multiple intensives over a decade, said the UCI helped him learn in one hour what had previously taken him ten years to discover.
-
Couples using the UCI in debrief sessions reported having breakthroughs in communication and connection unlike anything they’d experienced in 23 years of marriage.
-
Teams found new language and clarity to understand each other’s internal motivations—transforming how they work, communicate, and lead together.
According to Dr. Byers, the UCI uniquely surfaces what’s happening below the surface—bringing clarity to the unseen dynamics that shape relationships, marriages, and ministry teams.
Why Healthy Growing Leaders?
“Healthy Growing Leaders doesn't just create assessments—they create impact,” said Dr. Byers. “Every interaction has been marked by excellence, care, and a deep commitment to helping people grow. Greg is not only brilliant and innovative—he’s invested in the difference this tool can make.”
Why Health Matters in Leadership
“The health or unhealthiness of a leader holds more power than we realize,” she added. “Ministry is built on who we are, not just what we do. If we want to influence others for Christ in meaningful ways, we must pursue our own healing and growth first.”
